New services for blind and visually impaired adults offered by the Eastside Center for the Blind
The Eastside Center for the Blind is offering independent living services to blind and visually impaired adults in Pico Rivera and surrounding communities at the El Rancho Adult Education Center.
Hours: Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, in Room 12.
Services are free of charge.
People interested in taking classes should contact the center at (310) 502-3099.
Classes include the following:
• diabetic education
• assistance with personal correspondence
• individual and family support
• reading and writing Braille
• English as a second language
• guest speakers
• Braille cards and other games
• independent living services and basic computer training.
El Rancho Adult Education Center, in collaboration with the Eastside Center for the Blind, is one of the few sites in East Los Angeles County to offer services to the blind.
The School District benefits by having a local resource for its teachers on blindness and other related issues. Secondary students can obtain experience in community service by volunteering at the Eastside Center for the Blind.
The community benefits by having a community center where individuals who are blind and visually impaired can be trained to live independently. All services provided to individuals is at no cost to the District.
